    On Thursday night of this week I gave a presentation on recent trends in the research on learning and how the research might apply to the classroom. As far as I am concerned the three most important ideas I covered are: - the conceptions of good learning and thinking and how such learning and thinking are assessed (Dweck, Steele & Aronson, Gardner and Wiggins) - the idea that schools should focus on teaching thinking, creativity and innovation in explicit ways as well as analytical thinking (Sternberg, Robinson, Kao and Kuhn) - and, how does one teach non-cognitive capacities, such as empathy, resilience and "grit" as well as the cognitive capacities schools normally concentrate ...
