Dr. Kelley Nicholson-Flynn Named New Head of Upper School

[ December 16, 2011 ]

After a comprehensive search process, Dr. Kelley Nicholson-Flynn has been named as Kent Kildahl’s successor. Kelley comes to us from The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, where she has worked in the science department as the Chair and as the school’s Coordinator of Teaching and Learning since 1998. At Lawrenceville she has led major curriculum redesign projects, taught extensively in the science department and been instrumental in developing the interdisciplinary studies program at the school, which has been in existence for more than 20 years.

Kelley is a noted educator, teacher mentor and scientific researcher who has also helped direct and teach in Columbia University’s Klingenstein Summer Institute for teachers. Kelley will bring this considerable experience and expertise to play as she takes over running the Upper School from Kent Kildahl in July 2012. She will take on an instrumental role as we move forward with our curriculum work and ensure that Riverdale offers the most exceptional high school program in the country.

Dr. Nicholson-Flynn has a PhD in cell and developmental biology from Rutgers/UMDNJ, an MS from Johns Hopkins in interdisciplinary science studies, and her undergraduate degree in biology from Bucknell. She and her husband, Gregory, and two children, Nolan and Jillian, are looking forward to becoming members of the Riverdale community.
