6th Grader Receives A Better Chance Young Leaders Award

[ April 24, 2014 ]

ABC_scholar_awardsLucy Pan ’20 is one of only a half-dozen middle school students nationwide to be awarded A Better Chance Young Leaders Award for 2014. The annual award is presented to middle school A Better Chance (ABC) Scholars who demonstrate academic excellence as well as leadership within their school community. The award is presented to up to six ABC Scholars – two per grade – nationally. Each winner receives a gift of $250.

Lucy’s parents, Yumei and Jian, told the school they are “very proud of her achievements in Riverdale Country School. We really appreciate the help and the support she has received. We hope that Lucy will continue to make progress in Riverdale Country School.”

The mission of A Better Chance is “to increase substantially the number of well-educated young people of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society.” The organization’s College Preparatory Schools Program annually recruits, refers, and supports about 500 A Better Chance Scholars at more than 300 of the nation’s leading boarding, day, and public schools.
