Spring Choral Festival Showcases Several Middle and Upper School Vocal Groups

Spring-Concert-for-websiteStudents from the Middle and Upper School’s various vocal ensembles and student-led vocal groups recently performed at the Spring Choral Festival.

Arioso, the 8th and 9th Grade ensemble, sang a number of show tunes, including Irving Berlin’s “Steppin’ Out with My Baby” from Easter Parade, “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” from Guys and Dolls, “Song of Purple Summer” from Spring Awakening, “Steam Heat” from The Pajama Game, and a medley from Hair. Other selections included Fun’s “Some Nights” and The Kiki Dee Band’s 1974 classic, “I’ve Got the Music In Me.”

Intermezzo, comprised of 10th and 11th graders, also performed a couple of Broadway classics: a medley of Les Miserablessongs and “Blow Gabriel Blow” from Anything Goes. The group also sang “Here’s Where I Stand” and “Son of a Preacher Man.”

The Riverdale A Cappella Group Singers, a group composed of juniors and seniors, entertained with five popular songs: James Taylor’s “Shed a Little Light,” Sting’s “Fields of Gold,” “Man in the Mirror,” Neal Young’s “After the Gold Rush,” and Coldplay’s “Fix You.”

The Testostertones, Riverdale’s student-led, male a cappella group, also performed a Coldplay tune, “Swallowed in the Sea,” as well as a Maroon 5 hit, “Sunday Morning.” The student-led, female a cappella group, the Rivertones, sang Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” and a medley of Destiny’s Child songs.
