  1. Field Trip – Yay!

    [ By on April 23, 2014 ]

Today, my French class is taking a field trip to the Morgan Library's "Le Petit Prince" exhibit. Last year, in French III, we read Saint-Exupery's novel. I am excited to get off campus and to see the exhibit. It should be a lot of fun.

  2. The Beginning of the End

    [ By on April 10, 2014 ]

It's crazy to think that we only have a month and a half left of school! Ever since we came back from break, it has really began to sink in that this truly is the beginning of the end. While don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly excited for the summer and to graduate high school, it is also a bittersweet experience. Whenever Ms. Moore, our dean, mentions anything about graduation and end of the year festivities, I find myself getting a bit sentimental. High school has literally flown by; to be honest, I'm still sort of in shock that I am not going to be attending Riverdale next year. Yesterday, at a track meet, it hit me that this would be ...

  3. Snowdays on snowdays on more snowdays

    [ By on February 12, 2014 ]

One of the perks of going to school in Riverdale and being part of the "Hill Schools" (Riverdale, Horace Mann and Fieldston) is the fact that we get an ample amount of snow days each year. For many city schools, it is pretty rare to get even one a year; however, for Riverdale students, we often have at least two or three. This year has exceeded my expectations. During the past few weeks, we have had an extensive number of snow days. Last week, we were off on both Monday and Wednesday, and two weeks before that, two out of the three midterms were canceled because of the snow (unfortunately, I still had to take both of my language exams ...

  4. Second Semester and Class Choices

    [ By on January 30, 2014 ]

Last Monday marked the beginning of second semester! While I am incredibly happy that the college process is over, it's pretty weird to think that this will be my last semester at Riverdale. As a senior, since I have already completed many of my graduation requirements, I have more flexibility to take classes that appeal to me. Last semester, I was able to take a Spanish class that focused on writing and composition. While I have grown up speaking Spanish with my parents at home, I had never formally taken a class, and having the opportunity to develop my grammar skills and actually write in Spanish was a very attractive option. Another class that I really enjoyed was my Global 1960s ...

  5. TRACK

    [ By on January 08, 2014 ]

Hey guys! Happy 2014! I can't believe we're already back from Winter Break! This year is going by so quickly. This year, a lot of spring sports are starting in February, rather than the first week of March like in previous years. I'm really excited to start training earlier, especially since it's my last season on Riverdale's track team, and I want to make my senior season count! I think starting earlier is a great way to get in shape earlier for the upcoming season, especially since Riverdale doesn't have a Winter Track team, so many times, we are running against schools who have that extra edge, as they have been practicing and competing for months before us. While it is unfortunate that ...

  6. Into the Wild

    [ By on November 18, 2013 ]

Hi guys! This Friday is the Upper School's One World Day! This year, our One World Day theme is based on Jon Krakauer's novel, "Into the Wild", a book everybody in the upper school was required to read over the summer. Krakauer's non-fiction book recounts the journey of Chris McCandless, a young man tries to live free from the norms of society but ultimately dies after venturing off into the Alaskan wilderness without proper preparation. While I found "Into the Wild" interesting on its own, it is especially relevant to the seniors as our ILS class is currently discussing the notion of existentialism. We recently covered Sartre's philosophy, the idea that man has the power to create his own existence, rather than ...

  7. Senior Year

    [ By on October 31, 2013 ]

Hey guys! Its been a while! Everything has started to pick up in the last couple of weeks, and the college process is in full swing. While it is definitely a very stressful time right now, especially with early decision deadlines approaching, I know that there's only a couple more months of this dreaded process and that in the end, everything will be worth it. In being caught up in the midst of things, its easy to forget that this is my senior year. While the past two months have been incredibly overwhelming, I'm trying to make the most out of the remaining time I have left at Riverdale and value the experiences and opportunities that Riverdale has endowed me with.

  8. FIRST BLOG OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    [ By on September 18, 2013 ]

HEY GUYS! FIRST BLOG OF THE YEAR WOOOOOO I can't believe it's been three months since my last blog and most importantly, that I'm a senior this year! Even though it's only the third week of school, school is already in full swing, especially with the college process. While things haven't been super stressful yet, I know deadlines are looming in the near future, so I'm trying to get organized before everything gets crazy. But let's talk about something more exciting than the college process. The Thursday before Labor Day Weekend, the entire senior class went on a rafting trip on the Delaware River. Every year, many of the seniors have a great time, and it's a good way to commence the beginning of the ...

  9. LAST BLOG OF THE YEAR

    [ By on May 08, 2013 ]

Hey guys! It's the last blogging session of the year! Junior year has actually flown by. I can't believe that I'm gonna be a Senior next year. Overall, junior year has had its ups and downs; it has definitely been my most stressful year at Riverdale. Beginning the college process has been a bit daunting, and preparing for SATs certainly was not very enjoyable. But at the same time, this year has also been filled with a lot of great experiences. My highs of this year have been GVS (girls varsity soccer), track and Constructing America. In soccer, we ended up winning the Ivy League, which was a great way to end the season. For track, which isn't over yet, I recently broke my ...

  10. Constructing Olympics and College Day

    [ By on April 24, 2013 ]

Hey Guys! It's been a while! These past few weeks have been super busy, and the weeks ahead are going to be pretty hectic as well. We have College Day coming up, as well as the Constructing Olympics! On the morning of May 3rd, the entire junior class has College Day. Throughout the morning, we are going to be divided into different groups, composed of parents and students, and meet with different representatives of colleges. In these groups, we will participate in mock application readings, listen to a panel of seniors talk about their experiences with the college process, and many other activities relating to the college admission process. But that afternoon, after we get a taste of the stress that is about to ...
