About Travis B

Hey, my name is Travis and I'm a Senior (do something crazy...) at RCS. I've been at Riverdale since 6th grade and am proud to be a Falcon! Riverdale's a great school and there's a lot to blog about. But mine's mostly going to be about the Wind Ensemble (our band), Basketball (one of my favorite sports), and Chem with Ms.Findlay (one of my favorite classes). I'm usually hanging out with friends, but sometimes if I can't find them, I'm awkwardly dancing around campus. Read my posts and you'll get to know me in no time!

  1. Back to school

    [ By on April 04, 2012 ]

We just got back from Spring Break and I'm not too sure how I feel about that. It's not that I don't love school, I just love my bed more. I've had a few minor assessments in the last few days but it hasn't been that rough. Yesterday we had an assembly that was different than usual. We all (the Upper School) sat in the gym in a circle and stood up to show that our answer to an asked question was yes. Some of the questions had to do with race, religion, and nationality. Other, more difficult questions, dealt with financial situation and sexual orientation. The whole exercise was silent and the point was to reflect on who among ...

  2. Post Mid-Term

    [ By on March 13, 2012 ]

Finals are over and they went pretty well. You'd think with all hoopla around them that we'd spend the next six months discussing them but we only spent one class period going over some of the more challenging problems/common mistakes. It's really nice to just take the exams, review them, and move on. We have a pretty big game against Fieldston today and we're coming off a win (a week and a half ago against Rye Country Day School) so we feel pretty confident in our abilities. We're currently 6-3 but hopefully we'll be 7-3 by tomorrow. In band we've continued learning pieces such as "March Slav" and a tribute to Ray Charles. It's been a lot of fun and ...

  3. Track and Band

    [ By on March 13, 2012 ]

Track season's started and I'm really excited about it. Our first meet isn't until after Spring Break so right now we're just focused on getting into shape. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard, but it's also a lot of fun. After a hard practice you feel great about yourself and you know you're only getting better. I also enjoy (in a weird sort of way) the sick feeling you get when you line up for a race. You're nervous, and scared, and a little bit embarrassed in the short-shorts but as soon as the gun goes off and you start running you feel fine. In band class we've been perfecting our pieces and we've added a few ...

  4. Winter Sports and Music

    [ By on December 01, 2011 ]

The Winter sports season has started it looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm on JV Basketball, we've been practicing for a few weeks now and it looks like we're going to have a good season. My teammates are funny and it's great that we all get along well and enjoy playing together. Our first game is Monday and we all feel confident in our ability to win. There's a band concert tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to it, we've been practicing since the start of the year and we've learned all of our songs. Because we have two band teachers, they both contribute pieces for us to play. Mr. Gibbs, a percussionist, likes classical ...

  5. Track

    [ By on March 09, 2011 ]

We've had a week of track so far, and it's going pretty well. Gaby and Julia are also on the team, and they seem to enjoy it too. The practices gradually get harder because it's assumed that every day we're a little better than we were the day before. In band, we're gradually getting better; sectionals really help. Sectionals are when a specific group of instruments (i.e. clarinets, flutes, low brass) attend class and everyone else has that period off. These are usually reciprocal, so if you have to go to class one day, you'll get a class off later. I like these because you get one-on-one opportunities with (either of) the teachers and then you get a ...

  6. Spring!

    [ By on March 01, 2011 ]

We just finished our basketball season with a decent record, and now spring sports are about to start. I do track and field in the spring, and our first practice is tomorrow. I'm not going to lie, the practices are pretty intense, but after a while you get used to them and the meets are a lot of fun. You usually run two or three events at most, and you get to stretch, jog, and cheer on your teammates the rest of the time. I'm also looking forward to running the 400m in under 60 seconds which I failed to do last year by 0.69 seconds.   Ms. Cheng has been my chemistry teacher since the end of midterms, and things ...

  7. First Blog Post!

    [ By on October 07, 2010 ]

First Blog Ever! Hello! I am so excited to start this blogging activity at RCS. It is a great way to get to know about life at RCS, and today is actually a great day to get this started! I began my day with a PreCalc test (which I think I passed!), continued onto Latin where Pyramus and Thisbe were waiting for us to discover the hole between the wall through which they used to talk to each other, and then to Activity period where I attended the Sustainability Committee meeting. We had some great ideas about food quality/preparation/serving sizes to reduce waste, and I am so excited! We also might begin making purses and bags out of all ...
