About Gaby P

Hi! My name is Gaby and I have been going to Riverdale Country School since Pre-Kindergarten. I am currently in twelfth grade. I play field hockey (all of the sports at Riverdale are so much fun, and I love being able to spend time outdoors at the end of every day!); I am also a tour guide and love the blogging activity group. I have a twin who also goes to Riverdale as well. I am really interested in learning different languages (I take Spanish and Latin), and I'm in honors math. During my weekends, I love to run in the park and hang out with my friends. So far, one of my favorite parts about high school has been getting the chance to meet so many nice and fascinating new members of the Class of 2014.

  1. Field Hockey!!

    [ By on September 18, 2013 ]

So far, the field hockey season is off to a great start! We have had three games so far. The first game was at home, so it was up to us to defend our turf. By the end of the first quarter, we had already scored 3 goals! The game was fast paced since we were always transferring the ball from one side of the field to the other. I definitely got a good workout (the average field hockey player runs five miles during a game!) and also really enjoyed playing with my teammates. We won that first home game as well as the first away game by 5 goals!! The third game was a lot closer. We were tied far ...

  2. Communities

    [ By on September 19, 2012 ]

With fall fast approaching, I'm getting into the swing of the school year while still hanging on to great summer memories. Over the summer, I spent 6 weeks in Leadville, Colorado (a small western town) with a group of 21 other kids. It was an amazing experience because nobody knew each other at first, so we all got to bond and become one cohesive, community. We went on 10-day and week long backpacking trips, had classes about leadership and "sense of place", and did activities like rock climbing and fly fishing, just to name a few things! I also finished the laser projection microscope that I had mentioned before with the PA grant. It was pretty interesting to make because I ...

  3. Field Hockey

    [ By on October 04, 2011 ]

The school year now feels like its in full swing! We know all of our classes, teachers, and sports teams. I'm on the field hockey team again this year and it's been a lot of fun! So far, we had two games (one away and one home) and we won both of them! Our team really works together well and we've all gotten close as teammates. We have another away game coming up this Friday and I can't wait to see how it goes! I love getting the chance to be outside after school while the weather's still nice.

  4. A Great Field Hockey Season!

    [ By on November 03, 2010 ]

Looking back on my field hockey season this year, it was a really great one. Having started in August, for preseason, and ending only last week, the team has really bonded. This was my first time doing preseason, and it ended up being really helpful in advancing my skills and getting to know my fellow teammates better. For three days during the two week-long preseason, a company called Champions Edge came to teach us new skills and improve our old ones. Both of the Riverdale field hockey coaches were also very helpful and gave us guidance on how to improve our skills. The start of the actual season was very exciting. Our team was large in numbers and enthusiasm ...

  5. November is Fast Approaching!

    [ By on November 01, 2010 ]

Hello! Our field hockey season is almost completely over! We only have to collect the donations from our sponsors. Our game on Wednesday against Hackley went very well (drum roll please...), we won 3-0! It was very exciting and a great game. Coach was happy with us, and we were happy with us too. This past Friday RCS celebrated Halloween...and to be honest, it is one of my favorite parts of Riverdale. All of the teachers decide to do things together and dress up in all sorts of costumes. There were a lot of teachers dressed as the Glee cast, with the JV field hockey team as the Cheerios, and there were also a lot of people dressed up in extravagant, scary, ...

  6. Oops!

    [ By on October 26, 2010 ]

Hello Readers! Well, I managed to get swallowed up by a math test, a Constructing America test, and a Spanish test all in one week, and then I had a Latin test today! Glad that it is all over and done with and that I managed to handle it all pretty well...phew!  The days are getting colder, (although today was oddly humid) and it means the approach of the end of the quarter when grades come in and fall sports wrap up and everyone starts wearing jackets and Uggs. Today was one of my last field hockey practices which Coach P called the "Ultimate Challenge." We played Cat and Mouse (a sprint and chase game), Ultimate Frisbee, and a full field scrimmage. It was ...

  7. Meet Gaby

    [ By on October 08, 2010 ]

Hi! My name is Gaby and I have been going to Riverdale Country School for 11 years. I am currently in ninth grade and have found it to be an easy transition into the Upper School. This fall, I am playing field hockey (all of the sports at Riverdale are so much fun, and I love being able to spend time outdoors at the end of every day!); I am also a tour guide and have joined the blogging activity group. I have a twin who also goes to Riverdale as well. This year, I am taking Latin for the first time and am loving it so far! I am really interested in learning different languages (I also take

  8. First Blog Post!

    [ By on October 07, 2010 ]

First Blog Ever! Hello! I am so excited to start this blogging activity at RCS. It is a great way to get to know about life at RCS, and today is actually a great day to get this started! I began my day with a PreCalc test (which I think I passed!), continued onto Latin where Pyramus and Thisbe were waiting for us to discover the hole between the wall through which they used to talk to each other, and then to Activity period where I attended the Sustainability Committee meeting. We had some great ideas about food quality/preparation/serving sizes to reduce waste, and I am so excited! We also might begin making purses and bags out of all ...

  9. Meet Dyaami

    [ By on October 06, 2010 ]

My name is Dyaami, and I am a junior (11th grader) at Riverdale Country School. This is my 6th year at RCS, and I am finding more and more things to do and love about this place. In school, I participate in the following: Field Hockey, Swimming or Winter Workout, Ultimate Frisbee, the Sustainability Committee/Enviro Club, Blogging, Open House tour guide/panelist, and playing the clarinet. My hobbies usually consist of reading (favorite book: Count of Monte Cristo), writing (stories, poetry, and essays), being an environmentalist, playing sports (any and whenever I can), doing homework, and hanging out with my friends or family on weekends. Outside of school, I participate in the New Youth Conservationists which helps remove invasive species and
