About Dyaami D

My name is Dyaami and I am a junior (11th) at Riverdale Country School. This is my 6th year at RCS and I am finding more and more things to do and love about this place. In school, I participate in the following: Field Hockey, Swimming or Winter Workout, Ultimate Frisbee, the Sustainability Committee/Enviro Club, Blogging, Open House tour guide/panelist, and playing the clarinet. My hobbies usually consist of reading (favorite book: Count of Monte Cristo), writing (stories and poetry and essays), being an Environmentalist, playing sports (any at whatever time I can), doing homework, and hanging out with my friends or family on weekends. Outside of school, I participate in the New Youth Conservationists which helps remove invasive species and clean up in the Bronx River and Bronx Park to bring life back to both and get rid of all the pollution invading places we enjoy and love. I am an outspoken and open-minded person, ready for action and living life to the fullest. Enjoy the blogs!

  1. Update before/during Winter Break!

    [ By on December 20, 2010 ]

Hello! Many a thing has happened since I last wrote. We did secret snowflake in Math class before the winter break, the swim team is doing pretty well (and it is really fun to shoot videos and pictures of them), and my Constructing America test was not as hard as I thought! It was good to end the last four days before break with only two tests and not too much homework. My teachers were pretty nice about the assignments, but the freshmen, I heard, have a decent amount... I have awesome news! My sister and I entered a contest to go to the Plastics are Forever Youth Summit in Long Beach, California, and WE WON! We entered it by describing a ...

  2. Oops!

    [ By on October 26, 2010 ]

Hello Readers! Well, I managed to get swallowed up by a math test, a Constructing America test, and a Spanish test all in one week, and then I had a Latin test today! Glad that it is all over and done with and that I managed to handle it all pretty well...phew!  The days are getting colder, (although today was oddly humid) and it means the approach of the end of the quarter when grades come in and fall sports wrap up and everyone starts wearing jackets and Uggs. Today was one of my last field hockey practices which Coach P called the "Ultimate Challenge." We played Cat and Mouse (a sprint and chase game), Ultimate Frisbee, and a full field scrimmage. It was ...

  3. Busy Campus!

    [ By on October 21, 2010 ]

Riverdale is just getting busier by the day! Last week, I had a science lab report, history in-class essay, and a Latin test, not to mention a volleyball game against Poly Prep. Fortunately, that is all behind me, and we won our game! This week I have an English quiz, math quiz, science test, and a volleyball game against Holy Child. Yesterday, we had an assembly about keeping our community green with our new recycling system, solar panels, white board message board, and biodegradable paper cups. We also discussed keeping our life at home green. Next week, I have an English essay due based on The Things They Carried, a Vietnam war story. Also next week, my French ...

  4. First Blog Post!

    [ By on October 07, 2010 ]

First Blog Ever! Hello! I am so excited to start this blogging activity at RCS. It is a great way to get to know about life at RCS, and today is actually a great day to get this started! I began my day with a PreCalc test (which I think I passed!), continued onto Latin where Pyramus and Thisbe were waiting for us to discover the hole between the wall through which they used to talk to each other, and then to Activity period where I attended the Sustainability Committee meeting. We had some great ideas about food quality/preparation/serving sizes to reduce waste, and I am so excited! We also might begin making purses and bags out of all ...
