  1. Swim-a-thon

    [ By on January 09, 2013 ]

Swim-a-thon is the weekend after midterms. Since we had Hurricane Sandy in October our midterms were pushed back one day, and we have a review day on the Tuesday after Martin Luther King Day instead of the start of exams. Usually Swim-a-thon is where you come in on Friday at 12 P.M. and you swim until 12 P.M. the following day. The team is split up into four groups based on the level of swimming, and then you swim in different times. There is one long session (two hours long), two short sessions (one hour long), and then the team as a whole swims together in the beginning of the day and at the end of the day. This year, ...

  2. Yet another great swim experience!

    [ By on February 10, 2011 ]

The end of the first semester is finally here! All of our midterms are finally over, and it certainly does feel like a big accomplishment having studied for and finished four exams. But what seems like an even bigger accomplishment is that this past weekend, I participated in my first swim-a-thon. The swim-a-thon is basically a 24-hour event after exams where the whole swim team comes to school and swims for 24 hours in 1 to 2 hour shifts. In between our swims, we talked, rested, and really got to bond as a team. During our shifts, we swam events such as an individual medley (a mix of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle), "freestyle pyramids" (we started by swimming 50 yards, all the ...

  3. Second Semester!

    [ By on January 26, 2011 ]

Yesterday was the start of the second semester, and many people are very excited. We had exam return day on Monday, after having three or four exams the previous week. Today, the snow is piling up outside, and it is quite a struggle to get from class to class! Every couple of minutes, students and teachers are checking their smartphones to see the weather report for tomorrow. There is talk of a snow day tomorrow! On another note, the Admission Office has made all of their decisions regarding new students and are getting ready for a new season. Athletic teams are having a successful season and with a month to go until the spring season, ...

  4. Update before/during Winter Break!

    [ By on December 20, 2010 ]

Hello! Many a thing has happened since I last wrote. We did secret snowflake in Math class before the winter break, the swim team is doing pretty well (and it is really fun to shoot videos and pictures of them), and my Constructing America test was not as hard as I thought! It was good to end the last four days before break with only two tests and not too much homework. My teachers were pretty nice about the assignments, but the freshmen, I heard, have a decent amount... I have awesome news! My sister and I entered a contest to go to the Plastics are Forever Youth Summit in Long Beach, California, and WE WON! We entered it by describing a ...

  5. It’s been so long!

    [ By on December 02, 2010 ]

Hello! Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I apologize for not writing for a long time...it slipped my mind, and I have been a little rushed in school. But here on this stormy Wednesday I can tell you about some recent activity at Riverdale! First, winter season has begun. There are about 63 kids on the swim team and I am managing with 4 other girls, which includes taking pictures, times, videos etc. so Coach can collect it all at the end and make everyone a CD for memories' sake. Isn't that cool? We had our first meet today. It was a relay meet and had a lot of people, but it was nice. Second, I have been doing some serious environmental stuff! We are ...

  6. Go Guambo!

    [ By on December 02, 2010 ]

This is my first time EVER swimming competitively, and I'm loving it so far. Everyone has always told me that the swim team is one of the closest and most rewarding teams at Riverdale, and they are definitely right! We get great exercise everyday because, in addition to swimming, we have a set of fitness workouts to complete. It is great that the team is able to incorporate all different levels of swimming and help everyone improve. Also, maybe even more important than getting all of this great exercise everyday, you are given such a great opportunity to bond with people in grades 9-12. All of the upperclassmen are really nice and easy to approach if I ever have a ...

  7. Meet Dyaami

    [ By on October 06, 2010 ]

My name is Dyaami, and I am a junior (11th grader) at Riverdale Country School. This is my 6th year at RCS, and I am finding more and more things to do and love about this place. In school, I participate in the following: Field Hockey, Swimming or Winter Workout, Ultimate Frisbee, the Sustainability Committee/Enviro Club, Blogging, Open House tour guide/panelist, and playing the clarinet. My hobbies usually consist of reading (favorite book: Count of Monte Cristo), writing (stories, poetry, and essays), being an environmentalist, playing sports (any and whenever I can), doing homework, and hanging out with my friends or family on weekends. Outside of school, I participate in the New Youth Conservationists which helps remove invasive species and
